Google has made an engineering change to the Pixel 10 Pro XL this year that you’ll actually likely notice. Essentially, Google has swapped the position of the bottom speaker and the mic. So, if you’re watching a video and holding your phone in portrait with your right hand, you might be covering up that speaker, resulting in worse audio quality.
Of course, an easy way to fix this is to sort of change how you hold the device, or rotate it. Though if you are using a case, that should also sort the issue. As you have more space between your hand and the speaker for the sound to get out. As long as it’s not the ultra-thin cases out there.
It’s not clear why Google decided to make this change, possibly to rearrange some of the internals for that larger battery. Keep in mind that the Pixel 10 Pro XL now has a 5,200mAh capacity battery. In the US, of course, they did get rid of the SIM card tray, and outside of the US, that has been moved up to the top of the phone. Likely due to the change in position for the bottom-firing speaker.
Just get a case
For the most part, a case will fix this for you. But it won’t be perfect. So it might be a better idea to hold your phone from the sides instead of having your pinky on the bottom or your palm on the bottom, covering up the speaker.
Of course, if you want to grab a case, we have you covered there as well. We have a Best Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Cases list, which has a lot of great options available. Of course, there’s going to be more coming in the coming weeks.
