The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G was announced in early August, and its 4G variant is now official too. The device has been announced in Europe, where it is already available to purchase. It costs €199 in Germany.
The Samsung Galaxy A17 4G is now both official and available
While its availability is currently limited in Europe, chances are it will quickly become available in many other countries. Having said that, the phone looks the same as the 5G model, and there’s a single notable difference under the hood.
You’ll see that the device is quite boxy. Its front is flat, as is its back. The frame around the phone is also flat, while the corners are rounded. The phone has a notch on the display, which is not something we see often these days. There is also a “chin” below the display, as its bottom bezel is notably thicker than the rest.
It has a side-facing fingerprint scanner
All of the physical buttons sit on the right-hand side. The power/lock key is placed under the volume up and down buttons, and that key also doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
On the back, you’ll notice three vertically aligned cameras, which are a part of the same camera island. They sit in the top-left corner, and are a part of a pill-shaped camera that does protrude quite a bit. You can expect this thing to wobble on a flat surface.
Now, this variant replaces the Exynos chip with a MediaTek one. It’s fueled by the MediaTek Helio G99 processor. That’s also the only difference between the two models, at least as far as major specs are concerned. 6GB of RAM is included, along with 128GB of expandable storage. You can use a microSD card of up to 2TB here.
There is a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display on the front. That is a fullHD+ panel, and it’s flat, while it offers a 90Hz refresh rate. The Gorilla Glass Victus+ from Corning is placed on top of the panel.
Android 15 comes pre-installed
The Samsung Galaxy A17 4G includes a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W wired charging. It is IP54-rated and ships with Android 15 out of the box. One UI 7.0 is a part of the package, too, of course.
A 50-megapixel main camera sits on the back of the phone. It is backed by a 5-megapixel ultrawide unit and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front, a single 13-megapixel snapper is included.
