Soon after Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 series, Samsung threw some serious shade at the latest iPhones in a handful of posts on X (formerly Twitter). During Apple’s flashy “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, new cameras, a new chip, brighter displays, and enhanced battery life were all the rage. However, Samsung voiced its disappointment in a post on X, stating, “#iCant believe this is still relevant.”
Samsung throws shade at iPhone 17, says “Let us know when it folds”
Shortly after the Cupertino tech giant introduced the new iPhone 17 lineup, the Samsung Mobile US account went back to the archives and dragged out an old 2022 tweet that reads, “Let us know it when it folds.” The post has a cheeky caption that reads “#iCant believe this is still relevant.” Samsung is essentially making fun of Apple’s lack of a foldable iPhone in 2025.
Samsung also took a dig at the camera specs of the iPhone 17. Comparing the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s triple 48MP setup to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 200MP main shooter, the firm posted “48MP x 3 still doesn’t equal 200MP.” The South Korean tech giant is saying that all three lenses of the iPhone 17 Pro combined don’t match the resolution of one single main camera on the S25 Ultra model.
After YouTuber Marques Brownlee posted about Apple’s event, Samsung replied with: “Actual innovation > hype #iCant” — a not-so-subtle poke at the Cupertino tech brand’s “new” functionalities that have existed in Galaxy devices for years.
Additionally, Samsung responded to the AirPods Pro 3’s Live Translation feature by posting “[Apple] just announced live translation at Zzz-note. All we can say is, welcome to the party #iCant,” suggesting the function is old news for the Galaxy users.
The rivalry is heating up
Apple’s new “Awe Dropping” event certainly dominated headlines with the series of announcements. However, Samsung made sure to keep the conversation going and didn’t let it end there. It’s worth mentioning that soon after Samsung, Google also threw some shade at the iPhone 17 lineup.
Google released an ad titled ‘Generation Gap’ mocking the new iPhones for lacking advanced AI functionalities. The ad features Pixel products teasing the new iPhones while promoting the Pixel 10 series phones and Google’s Gemini Pro subscription for enhanced artificial intelligence features. You can watch the full advertisement below, which ends with the tagline “Ask more of your phone.”
