OnePlus Exec Throws Shade at Apple, Promises OnePlus 15 Will Lead in Refresh Rate

The President of OnePlus China has just confirmed that the OnePlus 15 will include a higher refresh rate than its predecessor, kind of. Li Jie did that via Weibo (Chinese social media), indirectly.

First, he welcomed Apple to the high refresh rate era. As many of you know by now, all new iPhone 17 models offer a high refresh rate. Moreover, all of them offer 1-120Hz LTPO displays, which is great to see.

OnePlus China President teased a 165Hz display for the OnePlus 15, in a way

That has been the case for a lot of smartphones out there for years at this point, though. Li Jie referred to high refresh rates as one of the most important improvements in the mobile phone user experience in the past ten years. We kind of agree with that.

With that being said, he also added that OnePlus “will once again lead the industry” in terms of refresh rate. He’s clearly teasing a higher refresh rate for the OnePlus 15, as that’s the company’s upcoming smartphone.

The OnePlus 15 has been rumored to include a 165Hz refresh rate display for a while now, and that’s exactly what seems to be happening here. The thing is, the jump from 60Hz to 120Hz is a lot more significant than a jump from 120Hz to 165Hz.

Also, there’s a good chance 165Hz refresh rate will come into play in specific scenarios only, like with gaming, due to battery life reasons. We’re not sure, though, OnePlus could replace 120Hz with 165Hz outright, it remains to be seen.

The device will likely launch next month, with a global release in January 2026

The OnePlus 15 will become official next month, in China. Its global model is expected to follow in Q1 next year, most likely in January. You’ll notice that OnePlus seems to be skipping the ‘OnePlus 14’ name. Why? Well, the number ‘4’ is considered to be unlucky in China. OnePlus still didn’t confirm the new name, though, nor the launch date, so stay tuned.
