Samsung has launched seven generations of foldables to date, including the most recent Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. With each iteration, the company has been refining them both in terms of hardware and software. So much so that some of the iPhone owners have shown interest in making the switch. But then again, if you’re stuck with older generation models, Samsung is now giving you a reason to upgrade to newer ones. The company ends software support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 software support ends
What this change means is that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are no longer eligible for new firmware updates. The 2021 Samsung foldables are not present in Samsung’s list of devices that will get the new firmware versions. This officially marks the end of their lifecycle.
However, there’s still some good news left. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 may still receive security patches when it’s necessary, like during critical vulnerabilities. In 2022, Samsung pushed out a security patch for its very old Galaxy phones to address a security flaw. But then again, there may not be a consistent update schedule.

You can always upgrade
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 debuted with Android 11 out of the box, with a promise of four major OS upgrades. This means the Android 15-based One UI 7 update, which they received earlier this year, is their last major release.
You continue to use the phone, but you won’t be able to experience any new features. If you decide to upgrade, Samsung promises seven OS upgrades to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. You can also take advantage of Samsung’s trade-in program for some savings.
