Galaxy S26 Ultra Leaks Reveal Major Display & Video Upgrades

The official launch of the Galaxy S26 series is still several months away. However, a wave of new leaks gives us a glimpse into some of the powerful upgrades Samsung is preparing for its next flagship phones. Leaked information from a recent software version and other industry sources reveals nice changes to both the display and video capabilities, especially for the top-end model, the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S26 to get M14 OLED display tech

The biggest upgrades, according to an ET News report, come to the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s screen. Samsung is expected to use its new M14 OLED panels, which promise significant improvements in brightness and lifespan. This advanced display technology, which could also appear in the iPhone 17 series, offers greater efficiency for its blue light-emitting layer. This allows the screen to get up to 30% brighter while consuming less power.

In addition, the S26 Ultra will likely feature Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology. This tech eliminates the need for a separate polarizer layer, which makes the screen thinner, reduces glare, and improves light transmission. It’s important to note that reports suggest the Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge will keep the M13 panels. So, the Ultra could be the only one in the series to receive these display improvements.

The S26 Ultra could also include a new privacy feature called “Flex Magic Pixel.” This technology uses AI to dynamically control the screen’s viewing angles, making content unreadable to anyone looking from the side. Users can activate this feature as needed, giving them a built-in privacy screen without an additional accessory.

Pro-level video recording upgrades

Beyond the display, the Galaxy S26 series is getting some serious video tools. Samsung will reportedly introduce its APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec. This will allow recording cinematic-quality videos that maintain their clarity even after intense editing. As expected, these high-quality videos create large files; for example, recording in 1080p at 30 fps with the APV 422 HQ codec consumes around 1 GB per minute. To handle this, the S26 series will allow saving these files directly to external drives via USB-C. So, professional content creators will have an option to not saturate their internal storage.

The update will also add support for LUT (Look-Up Table) profiles. This is a game-changer for creators, as it will allow them to apply color-grading filters directly in the Gallery app. This means they can see how their professionally recorded, flat-color video will look once they apply the final color grade. This could save creators a lot of time in post-production.

For even greater creative control, the new phones will also support a wider range of frame rates for video recording, including 25, 50, and 100 fps for Full HD and Ultra HD footage, and 25 fps for 8K video.

The Galaxy S26 phones will also feature a Horizon Lock for incredibly stable shots. Lastly, there will also be improvements to document scanning and more precise control over Motion Photos.
