Google prepping new Nest Cameras, Doorbell & Gemini Speaker

Google is preparing to launch a whole range of Nest products very soon. This includes the Google Home Speaker we’ve seen leaked in Google’s own launch event, as well as a new Nest Indoor Cam, Nest Outdoor Cam, and a new Nest Doorbell. It’s been a few years since any new Nest products were released, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that Google might be killing off Nest, but that’s not the case.

Starting off with the Google Home Speaker, which we brought you exclusive details on just last week. This is a new Gemini-powered smart home speaker. Think of the Nest Mini (or Google Home Mini before that), but instead of Google Assistant, it now has Gemini running the show.

The Google Home Speaker does bring Gemini Live and Learn with Gemini, as well as other features like Sound Sensing where it is able to sense when you’re not home and listen for things like glass breaking or your smoke alarm going off.

On the audio side of things, it does offer 360-degree sound and has balanced audio, so it’s going to sound very good, despite its small size. Additionally, you can pair it with a Google TV Streamer.

Google Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen)

Moving onto the new Nest Cam Indoor, this is going to be the third generation model and it finally comes in multiple colors. Google will sell the Nest Cam Indoor in Snow, Berry, and Hazel colors. Though the “Hazel” color does look a lot more like a dark gray color option.

So what’s new with this Nest Cam Indoor? Well, the two big features here are the increase in resolution to 2K resolution, as well as Gemini being included. The previous Nest Cam Indoor that was announced way back in 2021, was only 1080p. This is going to be a major upgrade in terms of video quality.

This is a 2K HDR camera now, and does allow for zooming and cropping into the picture to better idea of what’s going on in your home. With the Zoom and Crop feature, you’ll be able to keep the Nest Cam Indoor focused on one important spot, like a baby crib. You can zoom in at up to 6x, using digital zoom.

Google is also expanding video previews to the past three hours. So if you miss an alert, you can check out event video previews with 10-second clips of each event that happened over the past three hours.

And, the Nest Cam Indoor can also store up to an hour of video locally in case your WiFi happens to go down. So this is not a replacement for the paid Nest subscription with cloud storage, but it is good to have in a pinch when your WiFi might go down.

Google is keeping all of the usual features that Nest owners know and love already like Activity Zones, Garage Door Alerts, Familiar Face Alerts, and now there’s intelligent alerts. Which can send an alert when it spots a person, vehicle, or animal.

Google is also renaming the paid Nest subscription which was Nest Aware. It’ll now be called ‘Google Home Premium’. There will also be a second plan called ‘Google Home Premium Advanced’. We have no word on what the pricing might be for either plan, however.

Google Nest Cam Outdoor

Google is also preparing to release the second-generation Nest Cam Outdoor. This is the wired version, so the wireless model still doesn’t have a successor, at least not yet. Similar to the Nest Cam Indoor, Google will also be offering this in an additional color. This time around, that’s Snow and Hazel. However, only the Snow is available in multi-packs. We’re expecting that the Hazel color will be exclusive to the Google Store, similar to the Hazel Google TV Streamer.

A lot of the same features from the Nest Cam Indoor are also available on the Outdoor model, including 2K HDR resolution and of course, Gemini.

Zoom and Crop is here as well, allowing you to zoom in at up to 6x, digitally. So you can focus the camera on a specific area of your front yard, back yard, or somewhere else outside your home.

It can also store video events for up to an hour in length, if your WiFi goes down. As well as having three hours of event video previews. So if you missed something, you can get 10-second clips of each event that happened over the past three hours. And all of the usual features are also here, like Activity Zones, Familiar Face Alerts, Garage Door Alerts and even built-in intelligent alerts.

Google Nest Doorbell

Finally, a third-generation Nest Doorbell wired is on the way. Much like the rest of the Nest products we have detailed here, it will also be available in multiple colors. This includes Snow, Hazel, and Linen, with the Linen color being more of a beige. Like with the rest of the cameras, it is also getting upgraded to 2K resolution.

All of the features from the indoor and outdoor cameras are also here on the doorbell. Including 3 hours of event video previews, zoom and crop, Alerts with zoomed-in previews, and local storage fallback for when/if your WiFi goes out.

There is also a new feature called Daily Summaries that is available on the Nest Cam Indoor, Cam Outdoor, and the Doorbell, which will show you a summary of recorded events in a daily recap. This is being done with Gemini, so you won’t miss a thing when you’re at home and when you’re away.
