Gemini Finally Arrives on Google TV, Starting with TCL’s QM9K

After first demoing Gemini on Google TV back at CES in January, Google is finally bringing Gemini to the TV starting today. It is starting out on the TCL QM9K MiniLED TV today, and will be available on more devices later this year.

These devices include the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8 and UX models, as well as teh 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K and X11K models.

Google says that Gemini will allow users to do more than just give out simple commands. You’ll be able to engage in a free-flowing conversation with the big screens in your living room and other rooms in your home. You’ll be able to get help in finding the perfect show, brainstorming a family trip, and even getting help with your kids homework. Just talk to Gemini naturally to get more done.

Gemini can help you find new shows, or shows that your friends told you about but they couldn’t remember the name. Ask Gemini for something like “what’s the new cop tv show?” and it’ll be able to surface new shows that fit that criteria. It works quite well, and is also a huge upgrade over Google Assistant.

It’ll be available as an OTA update

Gemini on Google TV will be arriving as an OTA update. Though we aren’t quite sure if it’ll be an entire Google TV OS update, or simply an app update – we’re learning more towards a simple app update. Since rolling out OS updates to TVs can take quite some time.

This is the next step for Google in bringing Gemini to more and more devices, as it aims to replace Google Assistant. For many, Gemini is still not quite as good as the Google Assistant in every category, but it is fairly close. And it’s only going to continue to improve.
