Last week, we asked you which (if any) of the new iPhones you would buy. We are now looking at the results and, unsurprisingly, the vanilla model is eating into the small Pro’s market share, while the big Pro Max is the most popular.
The Apple iPhone 17 may be the big winner this generation, at least in terms of improvement over its predecessor. With a number of significant upgrades and staying at the same price as last year, many will flock to this model – including people that in previous years would have gone with a Pro. The vanilla model is 29g lighter than and has a, how shall we put it, a less controversial design. It also has the same screen, 120Hz LTPO and all, plus capable cameras, even if they are not flagship level.
The iPhone 17 Pro is in a tough spot – people would rather save some cash and get the vanilla model or would get the big Pro Max model. The latter was the most popular choice by far. While there were some detractors, it looks like the new orange color is a hit.
Look at that iPhone 17 Pro Max chart – it’s pricey, yes, but this is the iPhone model that most people would go for if they can afford it. This matches what analysts are seeing in pre-order numbers – the Pro Max is the most popular model.
The Apple iPhone Air is a controversial device for sure. It looks like the vanilla model is doing even more damage to the Air than it is to the small Pro – many see the Air as a gimmick and would rather have a good, old-fashioned iPhone instead and the 17 is just that.
