Xiaomi’s Next Flagship May Have a Big Surprise on the Back

Xiaomi will introduce its next-gen Xiaomi 16 series of flagship smartphones in the coming weeks. Ahead of the official launch, a few details, like the camera sensors of the new flagships, have already leaked. A few images are now circulating on the internet, purportedly showing the design of the alleged Xiaomi 16 series phones.

One of Xiaomi’s 16 series phones could have a secondary display

As per reports, the company will debut as many as three devices in the series, including the Xiaomi 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. The design of one of the Xiaomi 16 phones will reportedly feature a secondary display positioned around the primary camera lenses at the rear, according to newly leaked photos. These spy shots first appeared on China’s Weibo before making their way to X/Twitter.

According to some tipsters, the leaked images are of the Pro Max model. If the photos are true, the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max design will incorporate a large camera module spanning across the entire width of the top back. The large camera island houses a secondary screen with holes to house a main camera and a telephoto lens. A third smaller camera is located below the main module, alongside the LED flash unit and the LEICA branding.

The newly leaked images of the Xiaomi 16 series appear authentic, as one of the photos shows a high-ranking Xiaomi manager holding the phone. It looks like the brand is reviving the Mi 11 Ultra’s rear screen idea, but with a refreshed take.

It could be an always-on secondary display on the back

Xiaomi’s 11 Ultra features a 1.1-inch touch-enabled screen. It acts as a viewfinder for taking selfies with the rear camera, shows notifications, and has music controls. If Xiaomi is indeed reviving the secondary display on the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max, it could have more functionalities, including the always-on ability. The new, larger screen could have higher resolution, brightness, and a high refresh rate with LTPO technology.

As for the other features, Xiaomi’s 16 Pro Max will reportedly be a powerhouse with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. It could feature a large 6.8-inch 2K AMOLED screen with ultra-slim bezels and LIPO tech for reduced power consumption. The phone will have a new, highly dynamic 50MP SmartSens 590 main sensor.

Xiaomi could also include a 50MP periscope telephoto lens on the 16 Pro Max, which could house Samsung’s ISOCELL GN8 sensor. Lastly, the rumors indicate that Xiaomi will power the phone with a massive 7,500mAh battery, which would be a significant jump from Xiaomi 15 Pro’s 6,100mAh power cell.
