When it comes to our smartphones, we want it all. We want faster charging, better cameras, and more powerful features. But what if a major upgrade came at the cost of losing a beloved, albeit small, convenience? New reports suggest that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series might face just that dilemma as it potentially adopts Qi2, the latest wireless charging standard.
Qi2 is not Reverse Wireless Charge-friendly, Galaxy S26 series could show it
The feature in question is Wireless PowerShare. This is a handy tool that lets you use your phone to charge your earbuds or smartwatch on the go. It’s a great little bonus for those moments when your headphones run out of juice and you’re nowhere near a power outlet. It’s not a feature you use every day, but when you need it, it’s a lifesaver.
So why might it disappear? The answer lies in the highly anticipated upgrade to Qi2 wireless charging. This new standard brings built-in magnets that create a stronger, more reliable connection between your phone and a charger. This means no more fumbling to find the “sweet spot” on a wireless charging pad. It’s a huge improvement in convenience and efficiency.
Pixel 10 already lost the feature to integrate Qi2
However, there’s a catch. According to reports and a precedent set by Google’s new Pixel 10 series, the magnets required for full-fledged Qi2 charging create a physical limitation that makes reverse wireless charging impossible. In order to give users the benefits of Qi2, Google made the tough choice to abandon its own version of Wireless PowerShare.
This puts Samsung in a similar position. While the Galaxy S25 was the first to support Qi2, it relied on external accessories with magnets. But if Samsung wants to build a more seamless, magnetic charging experience directly into the Galaxy S26 lineup, it may have to make a tough trade-off. Is a more reliable charging experience for the phone itself worth losing the ability to top up your earbuds in a pinch? That’s a question Samsung engineers are likely debating right now.
