Google Photos Starts Rolling “Remix” AI Editing—Here’s How to Use It

Google Photos introduced a new Remix functionality alongside the photo-to-video feature last month. The popular photo editing app’s Remix tool allows users to transform their still images into stunning artistic styles. Google has now started rolling out the new feature to the Photos app more widely. Before the Remix functionality reaches all users, a Google community manager has detailed how they can use the new Google Photos feature.

“Remix” in Google Photos can turn images into different styles

The Remix feature in Google Photos lets you transform your photos into different art styles. You can select a picture from your gallery and apply various styles, such as turning it into an anime or a 3D animation. Users can also transform the images into a sketch or a comic book. Google may introduce more style options for this feature in the future.

This feature brings your imagination to life with ease. Explore the possibilities and turn your ordinary picture into eye-catching and share-worthy art that’s perfect for your social media or personal gallery,” mentions the post from the Google community manager.

Here’s how to use it

Similar to the photo-to-video feature, the Remix tool appears under the “Create” button at the top of your photo feed in the Google Photos app. Inside the app, tap “Create new” and then “Remix,” and then hit the “Try now” option. Proceed by selecting a style, and then tap the “Choose photo” option. Here, you can change your selected photo as well. Finally, hit the Generate button, and the Google Photos app will transform your still image into the style you chose earlier.

The Google community manager goes on to mention that you can get different results in the same style by hitting the “Regenerate” option again and again. Similar to all other AI-powered features, Remix is still experimental, so generated photos may not perfectly match the original image.

Google is rolling out this utility for the Google Photos app on Android and iOS platforms in a gradual manner. So, it could take some time to reach all users across the globe.
