Vivo X200 Ultra Falls Just Short of DXOMARK’s #1 Spot—But It’s Still a Camera Beast

Popular smartphone camera testing firm DXOMARK has tested the Vivo X200 Ultra flagship smartphone. It has ranked the device as the second-best camera smartphone in the world, based on its testing so far. The Vivo X200 Ultra is only two points behind the OPPO Find X8 Ultra, which is the top-scorer in DXOMARK’s rankings with a score of 169 points.

The Vivo X200 Ultra delivers impressive results in the DXOMARK camera tests

Vivo’s X200 Ultra has scored an overall score of 173 points for photos and 156 points for video in DXOMARK’s testing. It outperforms nearly all rivals in still photography, with its standout 35mm lens, impressive zoom capabilities, and an ultra-wide module. The phone has managed to outperform the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

For those unaware, Vivo has fitted the X200 Ultra with a 50MP primary 1/1.28-inch 35mm camera with dual-pixel PDAF and OIS. There’s a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens onboard the device, apart from a 200MP telephoto shooter. For selfies, the phone comes with a 50MP front-facing camera.

The phone delivers excellent exposure in portrait scenes, but narrow depth-of-field in group shots

As per DXOMARK, the Vivo X200 Ultra’s cameras offer excellent exposure in portrait shots and very well-controlled contrast on faces. The device provides good detail in daylight as well as in indoor environments. Furthermore, the firm suggests that the handset offers realistic bokeh, high levels of detail with the ultra-wide camera, accurate exposure and transitions in most videos, and stable autofocus and nice focus transitions in video mode.

However, DXOMARK criticizes the handset’s narrow depth-of-field, which can cause subjects in group images to appear out of focus. The firm also criticized slight inaccuracies when it comes to white balance in low-light shots and daylight videos.

Furthermore, the company suggests the phone has a slight loss of detail in close and medium-range photos with the telephoto camera. You can read the complete DXOMARK report regarding the Vivo X200 Ultra’s cameras for a more detailed analysis.
