Google just inadvertently confirmed our leak from last month. Back in August, we reported on Google’s new smart speaker, which is called the ‘Google Home Speaker‘. And now, thanks to 9to5Google digging around in the Google Home app version 3.41, they have been able to confirm that name. It will also sport 360 audio, which we also confirmed in our report last month.
The design that we showed off for the Google Home Speaker last month does show that it is definitely going to be a 360-degree speaker, since it is round. So this isn’t a big surprise. We also know that it will have Gemini built in, which isn’t a huge surprise. Google is adding Gemini to everything these days.
In the APK teardown, strings indicating new Nest plans were also found. We also reported on this last month. Nest Aware will be rebranded to “Google Home Premium”, which isn’t the only plan that Google will be offering. There will also be a more expensive “Google Home Premium Advanced” plan. We don’t yet know the difference between the two, but Google Home Premium Advanced will likely offer far more than the standard plan.
When will the Google Home Speaker launch?
We initially thought it would launch either before the end of October or in the Spring. However, seeing as there are now strings for the new speaker in the Google Home app, it definitely sounds like the launch is imminent. So we could see it being announced any day now.
Where the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 4 are both set to go on sale in a couple of weeks, we could see the Google Home Speaker launch around that time as well. Really, anything later than mid-October would be a bad idea. As it would be to close to the holiday season.
