Your Pixel 7 Pro may be looking a little swollen, and that’s a problem

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are the latest devices from Google to suffer the fate of a swollen battery, and this is, without a doubt, a notable problem to be concerned about. Issues with swollen batteries among Google devices initially surfaced with the Pixel 6a. Google had to make the call to stop selling refurbished versions of those handsets due to fire hazards. The swollen batteries then jumped to the Pixel 7a. Now, several users have been reporting that their Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models are having the same problems.

While this might not be impacting every single user who still owns and actively uses a Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, it’s happening to enough people to warrant coverage, and hopefully an explanation and a consistent plan from Google. The company has acknowledged the issue. However, it doesn’t seem to have a consistent resolution for everyone experiencing swollen batteries.

Some Pixel 7 swollen battery owners aren’t getting much help from Google

According to posts on Reddit about the problems, some users are expressing concerns over receiving less than helpful responses from Google. As reported by Android Police, some users are getting quick help. That appears to have come in the form of either a free battery replacement or a free device replacement.

Other users have been told they’d need to pay for the repairs. More users still were apparently flat-out told that the Pixel 7 doesn’t qualify for a replacement. That last statement surely can’t be true, since some users were given an entirely different device.

It would seem that Google hasn’t put a streamlined plan in place to resolve the issues, given that not everyone is getting the same answer.

Keep an eye on your device

A phone with a swollen battery could be a huge safety risk. It’s definitely not something you want to let fall by the wayside. With that in mind, it’s very important that Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners keep an eye on their devices. Look for any signs of the battery swelling, such as the display panel separating from the chassis.

If you notice the battery swelling, you definitely want to stop using the device right then and there. Continuing to use it and charging the device could lead to fires and more serious problems.
