Sony Xperia 1 VII receives Android 16 update

The Sony Xperia 1 VII, introduced a few months ago with Android 15, is receiving the Android 16 update.

The screenshot of the update posted on Reddit reveals the update comes with firmware version 71.1.A.2.68 and requires a download of about 1.13GB for the Xperia 1 VII having model designation XQ-FS54 EU.

The screenshot doesn’t include the changelog of the Android 16 update, with one Redditor saying the Android security patch level on the smartphone remains at August 2025 even after installing the update.

Moreover, multiple Redditors reported that Android 16 on the Sony Xperia 1 VII feels just like Android 15, except for the Settings app, which looks different.

The Sony Xperia 1 VII is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, has 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of storage onboard, and comes with the promise of four Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates.

The Xperia 1 VII is built around a 6.5″ 120Hz FullHD+ LTPO OLED and packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 30W charging support. The smartphone has a 12MP selfie camera on the front, and around the back is a triple camera setup comprising a 48MP primary, a 48MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto unit having continuous zoom capability between 85mm and 170mm.
