The launch date for the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X has been an elusive detail that many have likely been dying to know, and this week, Microsoft finally provided that information. The Xbox version of ASUS’s second handheld comes with a few tweaks that could be an advantage for some users. For example, the larger, more defined hand grips that you get with a controller.
There’s also going to be a slightly different UI. It’s still Windows 11, but it’ll have a more game-focused approach and launch right into the Xbox homepage, where all your games are installed. As opposed to launching right to the Windows 11 homescreen. ASUS has swapped out the chipsets as well. The ROG Xbox Ally will come with the Ryzen Z2 A, and the ROG Xbox Ally X will get the Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Much of the other hardware hasn’t changed, but these should be more powerful than their older counterparts. That’s all well and good, but when can you buy it?

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will launch on October 16
There you have it. The new handhelds from ASUS and Xbox will be launching in October. Specifically, October 16. This matches up with a leak about the launch date from earlier this month. Like the original ROG Ally and the ROG Ally X, these might be Best Buy exclusives. Microsoft doesn’t mention where you can make the purchase, but it also doesn’t mention a price.
However, Wario64 on X was able to spot the prices for both in Best Buy’s official listings. The prices have since been pulled, but the listings are still up. For the ROG Xbox Ally model, you’re looking at $549.99. That’s actually $100 cheaper than the original ROG Ally at Best Buy’s website right now. As for the ROG Xbox Ally X model, it’ll retail for $899.99, so the pricing on this one hasn’t changed. It’s still expensive for a handheld, but you won’t be paying more for it.
Both models of the handheld launch on the same day globally, save for a handful of regions. Thailand, Brazil, Indonesia, and India won’t have availability until a bit later. Additionally, the less expensive ROG Xbox Ally model won’t be available in China until early 2026.
