Sony Xperia Might Be Redesigning Its Look… Slightly

After a disappointing launch of the Xperia 1 VII flagship earlier this year, Sony seems to be planning to launch a mid-range smartphone soon. The phone in question is the Sony Xperia 1 VII, the successor to last year’s Xperia 10 VI. Earlier, a database listing leaked a handful of model numbers of the upcoming mid-ranger for various regions. A new leak now suggests that Sony could change the design of the Xperia 10 VII, and follow that with more changes.

Case maker suggests a design change for the Sony Xperia 10 VII

With a few exceptions, Sony’s Xperia handsets have gained a reputation for offering an identical design across different iterations. However, Sony could change the design of the successor to the Xperia 10 VI. A case maker on Amazon Japan has provided a handful of images of the exterior of the Xperia 10 VII.

As seen in the photos, Sony’s next mid-range Xperia model will have a horizontal dual primary camera setup at the rear. The phone’s predecessors, going back to the Xperia 10 II, have a vertical dual camera module. The original Xperia 10 from 2019 was the last in the series to flaunt a horizontal camera module.

The rest of the design of the Xperia 10 VII seems to be similar to last year’s model. The front design of the phone in the photos appears unchanged. It still has significantly thick bezels on top and bottom, as compared to other mid-range phones from various brands, and narrow bezels on the sides.

Here’s what we know so far about the specs

According to Sumaho Digest in April, the Sony Xperia 10 VII will feature a 6.1-inch full HD+ display like its predecessor. However, the phone could have an OLED screen panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. This will mark an upgrade over the 60Hz OLED panel on the Xperia 10 VI. The device will maintain the 21:9 aspect ratio of its predecessors, suggest the leaks.

Under the hood of the Xperia 10 VII could be a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, which will be around 15 percent more powerful than the one on the predecessor. However, Sony could utilize a newer mid-range Snapdragon SoC to entice buyers. Lastly, the sources suggest that the new mid-range Xperia will feature a 50MP primary camera, 8GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery.

Other features of the phone are still a mystery. Sony will reportedly launch the Xperia 10 VII in October this year. Sony introduced the Xperia 10 VI last May, making the successor’s release very late in comparison. We can expect the rumor mill will soon share more details about the new Sony mid-ranger, so stay tuned for regular updates.
