In the mobile segment, Google has always been known for its software. Each Pixel iteration brings new useful AI-powered features to facilitate our daily lives. Well, the recently announced Pixel 10 series—and especially the Pro XL model—is no exception. While the hardware upgrades are certainly welcome, it’s the on-device AI magic that truly makes the new phones stand out. Beyond the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL specs, there are a pair of new software features that feel like they’re straight out of a sci-fi movie.
New AI-powered features
First up is a tool called Magic Cue. This isn’t just a simple shortcut. It’s a smart assistant that understands your context to help you get things done faster. If you’re on a call with an airline, for example, Magic Cue might instantly pull up your flight confirmation number. Or if you’re looking at a text about an event, it could bring up your calendar. It’s a new level of personalized intelligence that’s powered by the new Tensor G5 chip and its built-in AI models.
But the most impressive new feature is a game-changer: Call Translation. Powered by Google’s Gemini Nano, this feature allows you to have a real-time conversation with someone in another language, all without the help of the cloud. You can speak into your Pixel 10 Pro XL in English, and the person on the other end will hear the conversation in a language they understand, like German or Spanish. When they respond, you’ll hear their words translated back into your language. This happens in real-time, and, incredibly, only one person on the call needs to have a Pixel 10.
Both Magic Cue and Call Translation are impressive new additions, but they come with a catch: they’re only available on the Pixel 10 series. Because they are powered by the new Tensor G5 chip, these features unfortunately won’t be coming to older devices like the Pixel 9 or Pixel 8. It’s a clear sign that Google’s long-term strategy is about more than just hardware; it’s about making its devices smarter.
If you’re ready to experience these new tools for yourself, the Pixel 10 Pro XL pre-order stage is live now. Shipping is set to start on August 28.
