This time around, we’re comparing one of Apple’s best smartphones with Samsung’s best flip foldable. In other words, we’ll be comparing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. Granted, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is no longer the very best from Apple, but it’s still a very viable offering. These are two very different smartphones, which should add some spice to the comparison.
We will start by comparing the specs from both of these phones, and will then move to a number of other categories. We will be comparing their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. With that being said, let’s get to it and see what these two devices have to offer.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Design
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is made out of aluminum and glass, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max combines titanium and glass. Both phones have rounded corners, while they’re mostly flat in other places, which includes their front and back sides, plus their frames. On the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s main display, you’ll notice a centered display camera hole up top. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a pill-shaped cutout up there. The bezels around those displays are quite thin, but a bit thinner on Apple’s handset.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has all of its physical buttons on the right-hand side. Its power/lock and volume up and down buttons are there, while its power key also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the flip side, has a power/lock button on the right-hand side. On the left, its volume buttons are located, along with the Action Key, which sits above them.
If we flip those two phones around, you’ll see vastly different backplates. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a second display back there, which takes the entire upper portion of the backplate. Two horizontally aligned cameras sit inside the display, in the top-left corner. The iPhone 15 Pro Max doesn’t have a second display, and it has three cameras in the top-left corner, which sit inside Apple’s trademark camera island.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is taller when unfolded, while it’s also narrower and thinner. That phone is also considerably lighter at 188 grams, compared to 221 gram of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Samsung foldable is IP48 certified, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. Both phones are quite slippery.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Display
The main display on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 measures 6.9 inches. It’s a Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. It has an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, while it also supports HDR10+ content. The peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio here is at around 88%, while the resolution is 2520 x 1080 pixels. The display aspect ratio is 21:9. This phone’s cover display measures 4.1 inches, and it’s a Super AMOLED unit. It also offer a 120Hz refresh rate, but not adaptive one. The peak brightness is 2,600 nits, while the resolution is 1048 x 948. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this display.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a 6.7-inch panel. That is an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. It has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. The peak brightness it offers is 2,000 nits. This panel has a screen-to-body ratio of around 89%, while the resolution it uses is 2796 x 1290. The display aspect ratio on offer is 19.5:9. This display is protected by the Ceramic Shield glass.
All three of these displays are very good, actually. They’re all very vivid and sharp, while the viewing angles are good on all of them. The same goes for touch response, actually. They also get more than bright enough, and all displays have a high refresh rate, so they’re very smooth too. Even the crease on the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s foldable display is not that bad, it’s much better than on previous-generation Flip devices from the company.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Performance
Samsung’s Exynos 2500 processor fuels the Galaxy Z Flip 7. That is a 3nm processor, and it’s paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM inside the device. Samsung is also using UFS 4.0 flash storage here. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, is fueled by the Apple A17 Pro chip, which is also a 3nm processor. That chip is paired with 8GB of RAM and NVMe flash storage. Neither phone supports storage expansion, by the way.
Both of these phones are more than powerful enough for basically anything. The Exynos 2500 flies behind a couple of other flagship chips out there, but it’s still a very good offering from Samsung. The Apple A17 Pro, on the flip side, holds its own without a problem. It also has an immensely powerful GPU in there. Both phones can handle day-to-day use like champs, without lag or anything like that.
The same can be said for gaming, actually. Yes, they’ll both get quite warm if you push them hard, but that won’t affect their performance all that much. We did not get to the point of overheating on either phone, they both delivered in the performance department, even with games thrown in the mix. You can run even the most powerful games out there on these two phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Battery
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a 4,300mAh battery on the inside. Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, features a 4,441mAh unit. Apple’s devices usually have smaller batteries than their Android counterparts, so this is a bit surprising. Granted, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a rather small battery in the general order of things. Samsung is not known for including high-capacity batteries to keep track of its competitors.
What’s the battery life like, though? Well, the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s battery life is not bad at all. In fact, it’s better than we thought. Still, it cannot measure up to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s not even close. The iPhone 15 Pro Max can provide several hours more of screen-on time in comparison. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 struggled to get to the 7-hour mark, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max even managed to cross the 10-hour mark at times.
When it comes to charging, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. On the flip side, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, supports 20W wired, 15W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless, 7.5W Qi wireless, and 4.5W reverse wired charging. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 does charge faster, as it can fully charge in an hour and a half. It takes the iPhone 15 Pro Max around an hour and 50 minutes to do the same. Neither phone comes with a charger in the box, though.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Cameras
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has two cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.57-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide snapper (1/3.2-inch sensor size, 123-degree FoV). Thanks to the second display, however, you’ll be using these two cameras as selfie cameras too, more often than not.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the flip side, has one extra camera on the back, three in total. A 48-megapixel main snapper (1/1.28-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide snapper (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV), and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (1/3.06-inch sensor size, 5x optical zoom).
Apple’s handset does have the upper hand when it comes to image quality, however, more often than not. Its images are closer to real life, and it offers better performance more contantly, even though the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s camera performance is nothing to scoff at. It also does a better job with HDR, for example. The images from that phone usually do end up looking more saturated and have a more processed look.
Both phones are good in low light, as long as you use their front cameras. Their ultrawide snapper are several levels below the main cameras. The iPhone 15 Pro Max wins the telephoto comparison without a problem as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 does not have a telephoto camera at all.
Audio
While both of these phones have stereo speakers, the ones on the iPhone 15 Pro Max are louder. The difference is not huge, but it’s noticeable. The sound output is good from both phones, though.
You will not find an audio jack on either of these two phones, however. You can rely on their Type-C ports for wired audio connections, though. Alternatively, Bluetooth 5.4 is on offer by the Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Bluetooth 5.3 from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
