Qualcomm Might Announce a “Turbo” Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Qualcomm will launch its new Snapdragon X series tech later this month at its annual summit. Rumors claim that we’ll see a sub-flagship chip in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Then there’s the actual flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This will succeed the Snapdragon 8 Elite and offer an improved gaming experience. It appears that the San-Diego chipmaker has one more surprise for us. The latest rumor coming from China notes that Qualcomm is readying what could be an overclocked Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 overclocked version could be in the works

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 debuted in April this year and is only present in a handful of phones in the upper-midrange segment. Prolific leaker on Weibo claims that Qualcomm will diversify with two new chips in the Snapdragon 8-series, possibly besides the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. One is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (SM8845), while the other is the SM8735 Pro.

While the leak doesn’t explicitly mention it, reports suggest that the SM8735 Pro could be a slightly superior version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 with overclocked cores. This is considering the regular Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has the identifier SM8735.

The chip will offer “turbo” performance

The overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, if that’s what it indeed is, allegedly offers “turbo” performance (translated). This is possibly compared to the non-Pro version of the chip. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 offers 31% better CPU performance and 49% faster GPU performance compared to the predecessor. It offers a Kryo Prime CPU core with a clock speed of up to 3.2GHz.

If the Qualcomm SM8735 Pro is indeed in the works, it should bring powerful hardware compared to the regular version. It’s unclear when the new chip will debut, but Qualcomm is holding its annual Snapdragon Summit later this month.
