Samsung has launched a new affordable Galaxy F17 phone in India. This new budget-friendly offering features a durable body, courtesy of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which is claimed to offer improved drop and scratch resistance. The Samsung Galaxy F17 comes with a promise of six years of OS updates, which is a big deal considering the price tag.
Galaxy F17 features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection
The Samsung Galaxy F17 features a familiar design to its predecessor, the Galaxy F16 5G. The front is occupied by thick black bezels and a waterdrop-style notch above the display to house the selfie camera. There’s a large pill-shaped vertical island on the top-left corner of the back panel to accommodate triple camera sensors.
The Samsung Galaxy F17 features an IP54 rating for dust and water splash resistance. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for device security. The phone is quite slim at 7.5mm in thickness and weighs 192 grams.
The new Samsung phone features an in-house Exynos chip
The new affordable Samsung phone gets a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with an FHD+ resolution and a higher 90Hz refresh rate. It is the cheapest phone in India with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Galaxy F17 features the in-house Exynos 1330, replacing the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip on the predecessor.
The Galaxy F17 comes in two variants: 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM, but the storage is 128GB on both. You can always expand the storage up to 2TB via a microSD card. The Galaxy F17 runs on Android 15-based One UI 7 layer on top. Samsung is promising six generations of OS upgrades starting with One UI 8, and six years of security updates. For connectivity, you get 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port.
The Samsung Galaxy F17 gets triple cameras on the back, with a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. You get a 13MP lens up front for selfies, much like the Galaxy F16. There’s a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. However, the company is not bundling the charger in the box, meaning you’ll have to get it separately.
Price, availability
The Samsung Galaxy F17 sets you back by Rs 14,499 (~$164) for the base model with 4GB RAM. The high-end 6GB RAM variant costs Rs 15,999 (~$189). It comes in Neo Black and Violet Pop colors. The phone will be available via Flipkart in India.
