Galaxy Z Fold 7 Suffers the Same Paint Peeling Fate as Its Predecessor

Unfortunately, it seems like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is having the same problem as its predecessor. Some users are reporting paint peeling on the sides of their Galaxy Z Fold 7 units.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is having paint peeling issues, just like its predecessor

Users on Reddit are reporting this, and the issue doesn’t seem to be limited to any specific Galaxy Z Fold 7 color. The issues have been seen on both blue and jet black models of the device.

The first thing that comes to mind is… maybe people should stop dropping their phones. That’s just the thing, users who have this issue claim that they haven’t dropped their devices. Some of them have even shared photos showing the damage despite using a protective case.

What’s interesting, however, is that most of those images show paint chipping around the power button are, and the USB-C port.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is not alone in this. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 had the exact same problem. Samsung had a response to that problem last year, and it’s an interesting one. Samsung said that high-speed third-party chargers can “deteriorate the anodization”, which is essentially the phone’s protective metal finish. That, in retrospect, causes the “delamination of the paint” and eventual peeling.

Samsung’s explanation from last year may not fly this time around

At least one user on Reddit claims to be using Samsung’s official 25W charger to charge the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and he’s still having the same issue. So… that may not be the issue after all. It’s also hard to believe that all other users are using third-party chargers, despite the fact the Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn’t ship with a charger in the box.

Either way, these are not good news, and it remains to be seen if Samsung will react this time around. The company may end up offering the same response as for last year’s problem, though.
