Rick Osterloh, the head of Pixel over at Google, got interviewed recently after the Google Pixel 10 launch, and he revealed quite a few interesting tidbits during that interview. He was interviewed by Bloomberg, by the way, in case you’d like to check out the whole thing.
Google Pixel redesigns are coming every 2-3 years, while a flip phone foldable is not coming
We’ve hand-picked the most interesting details from that conversation. Rick Osterloh said that we can expect refreshes to the design of the Pixel smartphone every few years. So, basically every 2-3 years.
On top of that, he touched upon the flip phone topic. Google has been making foldables for a few years now, but only book-style ones. What about a Pixel flip phone foldable? Well,l don’t hold your breath, as Google’s exec confirmed that such a phone is not coming. Well, at least it’s not in Google’s plans at the moment.
During the interview, he also said that a new tablet is not coming, though we already talked about that. Rick Osterloh said that Google’s plans for a new Pixel tablet are “paused”. Google wants to find a “meaningful future” for the tablet category before making another one. Don’t expect a smart ring from Google either, at least not in the near future.

He also referred to the company’s new lineup as a “super strong release”, in what he refers to a “mature category”. He was talking about smartphones, first and foremost, but also the company’s new products in general.
Rick Osterloh also gave us some insight into the upcoming Pixel lineups. He said that the design of 2026 Pixel phones, the Pixel 11 series, is being finalized now. The development of the Pixel 12 series, which is due in 2027, is underway.
AI was a part of the interview, of course, as that’s Google’s forte. Osterloh said that “it’s pretty clear we [Google] have a definitive lead” in AI and that “if you’re using Android, you’re going to be one the vanguard of where AI is going.”
