Google’s latest devices have made their official debut, and although all of them are bound to offer something exciting, there are notable differences to speak of, like the lack of a vapor chamber on the Pixel 10 compared to the Pixel 10 Pro. Before you grab your pitchforks and curse Google’s name to the high heavens, this isn’t anything new for Google. Last year, with the Pixel 9 and its Pro-model counterparts, Google kept the vapor chamber in the Pro models. Think of it like a premium upgrade you get when you go for the more expensive hardware. Companies do this all the time.
Of course, that doesn’t make it sting any less that Google made this decision with the Pixel 10 series. Google doesn’t mention the lack of a vapor chamber for cooling in the official Pixel 10 specs. But it has confirmed the Pixel 10 won’t have a vapor chamber, while the Pixel 10 Pro models will. Those looking to upgrade to a phone in the Pixel 10 series might want to consider this detail when they make their decision on which Pixel 10 they upgrade to.
The Pixel 10 Pro models will exclusively come with the vapor chamber
The reason this is a bigger deal isn’t because the Pixel 10 base model lacks one, but because the combination of the vapor chamber and the Tensor G5 on the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold could make for some significant improvements to the overall cooling of the device, thanks to the Tensor G5’s build off the 3nm process node.
It’s too early to tell how much of a difference this will make. That being said, it makes sense that the Tensor G5’s improvements to heat management could pair well with the vapor chamber’s superior heat transfer process compared to the graphene solution used in the Pixel 10.
Those who are looking to upgrade, regardless of model, can place their Pixel 10 pre-order starting today, with the phone launching officially on August 28.
