OPPO Find X9 Ultra Leak Reveals Groundbreaking Camera Upgrade

The smartphone camera wars are heating up. A new leak suggests that OPPO is preparing to launch a major contender. The company’s next top-tier flagship phone, namely the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, could feature a camera system with truly groundbreaking camera sensors, potentially setting a new standard for mobile photography.

OPPO Find X9 Ultra camera sensor tipped to jump on the 200MP bandwagon

The latest data bits come from the well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station. According to our post on Weibo, OPPO is currently testing a prototype of the Find X9 Ultra with a massive 200-megapixel main sensor. This would be a huge leap in resolution from the 50MP sensor on the current Find X8 Ultra model (review). With a size of around 1/1.1 inch, the sensor size could be just slightly smaller than the 1.0″ sensor on the OPPO Find X8 Ultra. However, the massive x4 resolution improvement would more than compensate for it.

It’s noteworthy that a previous leak suggested the Find X9 Ultra would boast two 200MP cameras. Considering the X8 Ultra already has a periscope telephoto lens with that resolution, the other 200MP sensor would be the new, upgraded main one.

Huge periscope telephoto sensor for even better zoom

But the upgrades don’t stop there. The Find X9 Ultra is also expected to come with a notably improved periscope telephoto camera. The leak suggests this telephoto sensor will be notably larger, reaching around 1/1.28″ (via nakajimegame). For reference, the X8 Ultra has two zoom sensors (3x and 6x), the largest of which is 1/1.56″. This potential improvement is a big deal. A larger sensor can capture more light, which results in better low-light performance, less visual noise in your photos, and a richer dynamic range. Overall, this translates into more detail in both the brightest and darkest parts of a scene.

That said, things get even better for zooming in on low-light scenes. The leak mentions an “ultra-large aperture” for this improved periscope telephoto lens. While no specific numbers were given, this feature could dramatically improve low-light performance and the quality of zoomed photos. For context, the Find X8 Ultra’s largest aperture telephoto sensor goes up to f/2.1.

Multi-spectral sensor to spread on Chinese flagship phones

Interestingly, the leak also points to a broader trend in the smartphone industry. Like its predecessor, the Find X9 Ultra will feature a multi-spectral sensor for more accurate color calibration. The tipster adds that we’ll start seeing this feature appear on more flagship phones from other brands, moving beyond the select few (mainly OPPO and Huawei) that currently offer it.

Let’s consider that the Find X8 Ultra arrived a short while ago (April 2025). So, it’s still quite early to talk about its successor. The leak mentions that these camera specs are from a prototype of the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, which means that it’s still possible that there will be some changes in the specs. Even so, the potential camera improvements that the brand is testing are hype, and we hope they arrive with the final product.
